Heating Treating Capabilities
It’s the quest that drives us to invest in the mechanical advantages of lean manufacturing to deliver value-added performance.
As part of our turnkey manufacturing services at EMC Precision, we offer a variety of in-house heat treating options. We apply various heat treatment methods to alter the physical and mechanical properties of steel, stainless steel, and steel alloys to strengthen their performance and durability. Our heat treating services leverage high-tech furnaces with precise control capabilities that allow us to monitor and capture process data. By leveraging these processes, we help companies accelerate overall production schedules and simplify their supply chain.
Along with process annealing to refine the microstructure of the metal substrate, we offer normalizing to make the grain size and composition more uniform. We carry out various methods of hardening, such as carburizing, case hardening, and core hardening with oil quench and air cool options. Our other capabilities include nitriding, induction hardening, ferritic nitrocarburizing, and various forms of stress-relieving. We also offer cryogenic treatment for sub-zero applications and apply thermal treatment to items processed on our straightening presses.
Heat Treating
- Induction Hardening
- Carburizing
- Carbo-Nitriting
- Core Treat
- Draw & Temper
- Thermal Deburring
- Straightening
- Magnetic Inspection
Since the various forms of heat treatment produce different results, as part of our design solutions, we analyze which of the heat treating methods is the most suitable for the application. We provide testing, such as magnetic particle inspection, per customer specifications, and industry standards. In addition to being ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certified, our heat treating services are compliant with CQI-9 standards that emphasize continual improvement, defect prevention, and reduction of variation.
Additionally, we offer Hard Chrome Plating as another in-house process to further simplify customer supply chains. Hard chrome plating is a layer of chromium which is applied to metal parts through the process of electroplating and is an excellent choice where there is a need to increase wear resistance, improve corrosion resistance, and improve surface hardness.
Precision Machined Part Plating Capabilities
- Hard Chrome
- Flash Chrome
- Passivate
- Barrel & Rack Options
While most of our parts are plated with a uniform amount of hard chrome, many customers have specifications require hard chrome plate only on certain dimensions. To meet customer expectations, EMC has a comprehensive masking service to protect the hard chrome from coating in unwanted areas.
In order to produce a uniform hard chrome coating, parts are processed in our patented custom racks along with anodes specific for each part family. A computerized system monitors our plating baths and controls the multi-step process to ensure the correct amount of hard chrome plate is applied to each part meeting customer specifications.
